With thousands of miles of beaches along the Atlantic Ocean coast, the Gulf of Mexico coast, and the Pacific Ocean coast, the US has many beaches to choose from. Almost every state has beaches, if not on ocean fronts, then on rivers, lakes, and reservoirs. Swimming, surfing, water boarding, and deep sea fishing are popular on the ocean front beaches along the East and West coasts as well as along the Gulf. Florida is surrounded on three sides of the state, and Hawaii is surrounded by water.
One of the most beautiful beaches in the world is in Hawaii and is named Sunset Beach. This is a surfer’s heaven because of 20 foot waves that can be quite dangerous for a beginning surfer. The Cape Cod coast along the Atlantic Ocean in the Northeast is another area known for beautiful beaches, although the water can be a bit cold since temperatures do not stay warm in this area throughout the entire year. Cape Cod has over nine miles of beaches, including Nauset Beach where surfers, swimmers, and sun lovers gather. There is a snack bar and restrooms are located on this beach.
Many of Florida’s beautiful beaches can be seen by car tour since some of the major highways have sections that run along the coastline. Miami, Florida is known for its famous South Beach where millions of tourists come to see the beach as well as for the parties and clubs in the area. There are also some small islands off the coastlines of the US. One of these is in Wilmington, North Carolina and is called Carolina Beach on the Atlantic Ocean. The clean sandy beaches are great for vacationers who want to rest in the sand or who have children who want to play on the clean beaches. Carolina Beach has a boardwalk where various restaurants and shops are available for meals.
Surfing is not just a water sport that uses a long board to allow a person to ride the waves of the sea. It is a culture that was popularized by the Beach Boys, a rock and roll band in the 1960s. Today, surfing is one of most popular activities on the beach, and the USA has numerous wonderful beaches. Some of the best beaches are found in Hawaii and in Florida. There is also the Kiawah Island in South Carolina, Coronado Beach and the Santa Catalina Island in California, and the East Hampton in New York.
