Colorado, the Centennial State, is located in the southwestern region around the Rocky Mountains, bordered by the states of Wyoming, New Mexico, Arizona, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma and Utah.
Denver is the capital as well as the largest city in Colorado. This state has over a hundred mountain peaks. The summit if Mount Elbert is the highest point in the Rocky Mountains. The climate varies according to the location of the mountains in the state. At higher elevations, there is more precipitation and lower temperatures. The eastern plains have abundant sunshine and clear nights and in summer, it may be prone to droughts. Extreme weather with thunderstorms, lightning, hail storms, tornadoes, etc may also occur occasionally.April through October is a good time to visit this state.

Mesa Verde National Park is one of the nation’s largest archaeological preserves which protect a system of Anasazi remains. Some of the largest and well preserved Native American cliff dwellings can be seen in the deep canyons cut on the Mesa.
