El Monte is a fast growing city within California, located just over 10 miles outside of Los Angeles. The city is a 30-minute drive from the coast, providing tourists with easy access to miles of well-maintained beaches, which are popular among surfers and beach sports fans. Visitors are also only around 20 minutes from Hollywood, where they can walk along the famous Hollywood Boulevard, and access attractions such as the Hollywood Forever Cemetery, and the Hollywood Wax Museum.
Within the city, tourists can visit the El Monte Museum to learn about the early settlers, and Gay's Lion Farm, which trained lions to appear in the MGM movies in the 1920's and 1930's.
El Monte also has a number of public parks, which provide visitors and residents with a variety of recreational activities. Mountain View Park has a pool, a baseball court, a large playground, and a picnic area, and the Santa Fe Trail Historical park features a nineteenth century house, and the old El Monte jail.
