Fresno, Calif. came from the Spanish world which means ash tree because of its abundant mountain ash trees lining the river. It is the fifth largest city in California and is located in center of the wide San Joaquin Valley with an estimated population of 500,000 in February 2009. Its local government is composed of a non partisan and non affiliated Mayor and seven City Council members elected to serve not more than 4 years.

Climate in Fresno, Calif. has relatively mild winters and hot dry summers like the Mediterranean climate. During the month of December, low temperatures can be experienced while high temperatures can be felt during the month of July.

Economy is well sustained by agribusiness production with 250 different crops produced by 7,500 farmers, Fresno, Calif. can generate up to $3 billion a year of revenue. Agricultural products produced are grapes, cotton, tomatoes, cattle, calves, and turkeys. Besides being a leading agribusiness hub, Fresno, Calif. also manufactures agricultural chemicals, farm equipments, canned fruit and vegetables, clothing, computer software, electric wire, pumps, glass and plastic products.

Not only does it produce great farm products; it also has its share of famous people. Famous celebrities from this city include Bruce Furniss, Jon Hall, Maynard Dixon, Sam Peckinpah, William Saroyan and Mike Connors.
