Independence is a large city situated in the state of Missouri, just around 10 miles outside Kansas City. The city was founded in the min-nineteenth century and is home to a number of historical homes including the former president Harry Truman's house, Valle Mansion, and the Pioneer Spring Cabin.
Tourists can also visit Marshal's Home and Museum, which was the nineteenth century Jackson County Jail. Another historical attraction is Leila's Hair Museum, which features over hundreds of Victorian hairpieces and items of jewelry.
In terms of recreational activities, Independence, Missouri offers a number of golf courses, an ice rink, a water park, and nature trails. One popular tourist attraction is the George Owens Nature Park, where visitors can enjoy the local lakes and woodland areas.
The city also has a selection of shopping areas, including the Independence Center, which has more than 100 different retailers to choose from, Hartman Hermitage, and Bolger Square, which also feature a range of restaurants and eateries.
