Currently home to over 100,00 residents, McAllen is considered one of the fastest growing cities in the Texas, and indeed the United States, with rapid population growth in the last decade as the city developed.
McAllen is home to over eight hundred restaurants, and is famed for its food scene. Venetian Fine Dining, Santa Fe Steakhouse and Hop Tung are several of the most popular restaurants in the city. From September to May, visitors can take part in the McAllen ArtWalk, which is held on the first Friday of each month. The ArtWalk is a self-guided tour of McAllen's best art galleries.
In October, the Palm Fest takes place to celebrate the music, food and heritage of Deep South Texas. McAllen also holds a large annual 4th of July Celebration, which features a water show and fireworks display. In December, McAllen holds a Candlelight Posada in Archer Park. This celebration is highlighted by a parade and live nativity, while in the spring months, McAllen's Street Festivals bring out the best in local music and food.
