America tours

Nicknamed the “Wolverine State”, this state is named after the Lake Michigan meaning “large water” in the Native American Ojibwe dialect. This city is surrounded by five Lakes. This state is made up of two peninsulas which are separated by the Straits of Mackinac which is a five mile channel of water that joins two lakes.

As you can see, the residents of Michigan are either boating, sailing, kayaking or swimming most of the summer when the water allows it. Michigan is also known as the auto capital of the USA. Henry Ford started his first plant in Highland Park with his Model-T cars that ushered in the automotive industry.

Lansing is the capital of Michigan. Detroit is the largest city and more well known because of the automotive industry.

Surrounded by lakes, it is no mystery that the state abounds in historical parks such as Isle Royale National, Keweenaw National, Pictures Rocks Sleeping bear dunes, Huron National, Manistee National, Hiawatha National, Ottawa National, etc. With 78 state parks, Michigan has the largest state forest system in the USA.

The weather in Michigan is varied depending on the latitude. The southern parts of the state (the Lower Peninsula) have a warmer climate with hot summers and cold winters. The northern part has a severely cold climate with very cold winters. This state also is affected by the lake-effect snow during winter. April through September is a good time to visit this state.

Visitors arrive in Michigan through the Detroit Metropolitan International airport. Cars are available for rental and shuttles connect passengers to the various hotels in the area. If you are not familiar with the area, do book on some of the guided tours to see the state’s numerous attractions.

Lansing, the capital city of Michigan has a historic background and is full of Museums, historic buildings and other sightseeing opportunities. Explore the wonders of the Universe in the Abrahms Planetarium or play with the children hands-on at the Impression Science Center. For those guests who enjoy a walk in the park, there is the Cooley Gardens, where peonies, anemones and asters vie for your attention. The Kresge Art Museum showcases ancient, 5000 year old African, Egyptian, Greek, Arab and Roman civilizations. Not to be missed is the Women’s Historical Center and Hall of Fame where we can admire the collection of portraits and information on one hundred US women who made a difference to the world.
