With an estimated population of 545,000 in the year 2000, Nashville-Davidson, Tenn. stands proudly in the north-central part of Cumberland River with its total area of 1,521,437 making it the largest metropolitan area in the Tennessee. It was named after one of the ports built by James Robertson and Donelson near the river. Because of the importance of Nashville-Davidson, Tenn. as the port of entry and the center of industrial and commercial sectors in the Upper South, it became the capital of the state in 1843.
