New Hampshire


New Hampshire is also called the “Granite State” because this state once had a large granite industry. The capital of New Hampshire is Concord although the largest city is Manchester.

As you can see, most of these names are derived from English towns and cities. New Hampshire is also exceptionally beautiful in fall when nature takes out its colorful brushes to paint the surroundings in glorious, vivid hues.

The weather in New Hampshire is humid continental with warm, humid summers and cold, wet winters. Winters are snowy and precipitation may reach over one hundred inches across the state annually.

New Hampshire is an important state in the USA as the first national primary voting is performed in this state. The coast of New Hampshire includes Portsmouth with cobblestones and beautiful views of the bay. The largest lake in the state is Winnipesaukee which allows visitors to go hiking, biking, boating or fishing in and around it. Throughout the year, mountain bikers, hikers and backpackers gather here to enjoy the seasonal warmth and to sleep under the stars.

In winter, the skiers and snowmobilers claim the area for their outdoor activities. Pease International Airport or Boston Logan International airport may be use as the gateway to New Hampshire and its numerous opportunities for fun.

McIntyre Ski Area (50 Chalet Ct – NH 03104) boasts a vertical drop of one hundred and seventy feet. This is great for the beginner skier as they test the slopes and gain confidence to move on to higher aspirations. Visitors can also try snowboarding or tube in Manchester. For the uninitiated, there are plenty of opportunities to learn lessons from pros at these locations.

Anheuser-Busch Brewery (221 Daniel Webster Hwy – NH 03054) offers daily tours for the uninitiated and for the experts in this subject. Visitors learn how the beer is brewed with step by step instructions and demonstrations. Included in this tour is a visit to the beer tasting room. As in most attractions, you will find a memento gift shop here.

Massabesic Audubon Center (26 Audubon Way –NH 03032) on Lake Massebesic is a wonderful way to spend the day with the family. This center is a 5000 foot facility that includes nature walks, snowshoe treks and adventures in green living. Bird watching includes hundreds of migratory birds like bluebirds, ospreys, eagles and loons. This is a wonderful way to learn and teach the kids on ways to save the environment for our future.

Millyard Museum (200 Bedford Street – NH 03101) is located in the spot where Amoskeag Manufacturing Company’s old mill was situated earlier. This Museum chronicles the history and lifestyle of the early inhabitants of the area, the Native Americans who fished at the Amoskeag Falls. There is a gallery that offers a number of educational tours and informercials.

Water Country (2300 Lafayette Road – NH 03801) in Manchester is a water park filled with activities for young at heart visitors. There is a pirate ship, Ollie the octopus, Dragon’s Den and Double Geronimo that provides hours of excitement, squeals and entertainment to the wee crowd. On summer days it is only natural to jump in the water and enjoy getting soaked.
