Virginia's second largest city, Norfolk is situated on Chesapeake Bay and is traditionally an industrial and freight hub for the northeastern states. Home to approximately 230,000 residents, Norfolk is a vibrant community becoming increasingly popular amongst visitors from Virginia and the surrounding states for its cultural and leisure attractions.
The most highly regarded art gallery in the state is the Chrysler Museum of Art, which houses contemporary and traditional works by some of America's most celebrated artists, including Jackson Pollock, Andy Warhol and Edward Hopper. Alternatively, the National Maritime Center Nauticus offers an interactive visitor experience, and is home to the state's largest and most successful aquarium and education center.
In the arts, Norfolk plays home to the Virginia Symphony Orchestra, which performs throughout the year, in addition to the Virginia Opera and the Virginia Stage Company which help give the city its reputation for excellence in music and theatre.
