Oakland, California is a city named after the many oak trees, which thrived around the area. It is located in the west-central part of the State of California, east of San Francisco Bay. Today, it is one of America’s largest cities, but it wasn’t always like this.
The first people to who settled in the area were mainly prospectors during the gold rush of 1849. Opening of the ferry service to San Francisco further increased the population of the and soon the settlement developed into a town then into a city. It became a city only two years after it was incorporated as a town.
There are many places to go to once you’re in Oakland. One of the many attractions in the city is the Chabot Space and Science Center, where planetarium lights can dazzle you. Another good place to visit would be Oakland’s China town. It is the best place where you can find a lot of authentic Chinese goods at good prices. However, if you prefer to bask in the abundance of nature, a good place to visit would be the Lakeside Park and Garden Center in Oakland. This place contains a lot of different types of gardens, where you can admire the different garden styles from different places.
