The name “Philadelphia” has Greek roots which can be pretty much translated to “Brotherly Love.” During the time before the American Revolution, Philadelphia was clearly ahead of all other colonies in terms of education, arts and culture which could explain why many of the United States of America’s history can be found in Philadelphia. It is where the declaration of independence was initially signed by the founding fathers and even served as the nation’s capital for while until the capital was transferred to Washington in 1800.
Just a few decades after it was founded, Philadelphia was the leader of the Industrial Revolution in America. Back then, the industry was all about steam engines and hats; today, the focus of the city has shifted. The city mainly focuses on medical devices, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, printing, publishing, and transportation equipment. Also, history seem to be repeating itself in Philadelphia in the sense that it is once again in the lead of other states in terms of medical, legal and architectural services. The city is also home to one of the largest fresh water ports in the world, aiding its phenomenal growth.
