The full name of Rhode Island is “Rhode Island and Providence Plantations”. This state is located in the New England region and is known for its plantations. It is also called the “Ocean State”. The capital of Rhode Island is Providence which is also its largest city. Rhode Island is the smallest state in the US in terms of total area with the largest official name. Unofficially, it is also called “Little Rhody” by the larger states.
T.F Green Airport in Warwick, Rhode Island is the gateway to little Rhody. Surprisingly, for its small size, Rhode Island has a large number of oceanfront beaches. Eastern Rhode Island comprises of the lowlands and the Narragansett Bay which contains over 30 islands. Western Rhode Island is upland and is a mosaic of colors during the fall season.
Rhode Island has a warm summer humid continental climate. It has hot, rainy summers and cold, chilly winters. However, the proximity of the Ocean makes it a great place to visit throughout the year.
