Originally named as San Miguel, San Diego was later renamed to its current name by Don Sebastian de Viscaíno. When he arrived at the bay, it was the feast day of San Diego and coincidentally, his flagship was named San Diego, so in honor of the Saint, he took the liberty of renaming it. San Diego has somewhat earned the title of “America's Finest City” due to it being ideal in many ways. First of all, the city and the people are very hospitable. Second, it boasts beautiful scenery. Third, it has a very ideal climate. Due to the combinations of those factors, San Diego attracts many tourists, foreign and local.
