For the ultimate family holiday it is hard to look further than Orlando. Adults and children of all ages will find more than enough to do, with most of the attractions focused on fun, outdoors and family experiences. Naturally most people, think Disneyland is all there is here, this magnificent theme park is still a mecca for visitors, however, there is so much more on offer when people
choose family holidays to Orlando, Florida.
It's the theme parks here that get the blood racing and the adrenaline pumping. Walt Disney World Resort, located at Lake Buena Vista, is the world's largest and most visited theme resort. It offers all things Disney with the magic Kingdom continually delighting families of many generations. Then there is Universal Studios that brings the characters and adventures of Harry Potter to life.
The sun is not always out but it is most of the time, with the average temperature in the cooler months being 72 F (22C) and heating up to 90- 100 F (32-38C) in Summer, making the outdoors the place to be. So then there is a matter of cooling off. Family themed water parks are all the rage and they are a great day out.
Disney World Resort has two, Blizzard Beach and Typhoon Lagoon. Sea World combines water play, animal shows and rides to make it a fun filled family day out, also located here is the sea park Aquatica which proudly shows off their very clever dolphins.
More fun and water at Wet n Wild and CoCo Water Resort is like one big playground in the middle of a huge pool, and not to be missed is Orlando's newest water attraction Fantasy Surf.
A day that the family is not likely to forget is a visit to Discovery Cove. This underwater wonderland is amazing and if the kids have never snorkelled this is the best way to get them started.View hundreds of species of tropical fish, explore under water shipwrecks, swim with dolphins or just lounge on a deckchair in the sand, it really has something for everyone.
Your holiday doesn't have to be themed and scream filled though. Outside of the theme and water parks, there are some wonderful adventure activities just waiting to be explored. There are many more water sports in natural environs, so boating, skiing, fishing and even hot air ballooning are all ways of getting in touch with the great outdoors.
When the family has had enough to the thrills and screams, Downtown Orlando offers more fun on a quieter scale. The Orlando Science Centre is very impressive with exhibits that entertain as well as educate, including Nature Works, Kids Town and the Crosby Observatory which has the largest telescope in Florida.
Other downtown attractions include the Orlando Museum of Art and the Mennello Museum of Art. If you are keen to explore outdoors here, Lake Eola is the pride and joy of the city centre. Many festivals, concerts and events are frequently hosted here. The iconic landmark in the lake is the Lake Eola fountain and there are good walking and cycling tracks as well as playgrounds and picnic areas to enjoy.
Another of Orlando's must see attractions is the Kennedy Space Centre, located 45mins drive to the east. The history of the American space program dating back 30 years is displayed here in a way that will amaze and awe inspire all ages.
The list of fun things for families to do here just goes on and on. However, people need to eat and rest as well on holidays, and Orlando offers lots of family style restaurants, many are themed and have shows so you can make a real night of it. As far as the resting goes that may have to wait until you all get home!
