Wichita, Kansas is one of the 50 largest cities in the US, home to some 350,000 residents. Populated for over 10,000 years, Wichita is one of the most historic cities in the country, first visited by explorers to the region in 1541. Today, it is a bustling industrial and commercial settlement, known affectionately as the Air Capital of the World for its strong links to the aircraft manufacturing industry.
Divided by the Arkansas River, Wichita has plenty to offer visitors on both the east and west banks. The Tallgrass Film Festival attracts thousands to the city every year in recognition of independent feature films, while the annual Wichita River Festival attracts almost 380,000 visitors each and every year.
For culture vultures, there are several museums and art galleries across the city, including the Wichita Art Museum, home to the seminal works of many great American artists, while the Wichita-Sedgwick County Historical Museum details the history of the city and Sedgwick county from the mid-19th century with a range of local artifacts of historical interest.
